BY A PLOY combining ingredients of "Jim'll Fix It" and "This Is Your Life," Mrs Jacqueline Metcalf was lured about 100 miles from Woodbridge, near Ipswich, to Radlett Aerodrome, Herts, ostensibly to a Swapmeet for Dinky toys. The deception had been planned by her three children, who said she was always talking about the Scammell she used to drive about 20 years ago.
Jim Moore, Scammell's chief engineer, was a ready conspirator and when the family arrived at Radlett, Mum was handed a Scammell Commander tank transporter and a Leyland Roadtrain 6 x 2 38tonner to drive. It's a good thing she used not to ride a white horse through Coventry.
