Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GENERAL ROAD accident figures in Wales are down for the first six months of 1983 compared with the same period of 1982.

Heavy goods vehicle casualty accidents are down dramatically, dropping from 123 for the first six months of 1982, to 82 for the same period of 1983.

The largest percentage decreases relate to fatalities and serious injuries, suggesting a drop in the severity of injuries caused by road accidents, the Welsh Office said.

The drop is probably helped by seat belt legislation at the end of January last year, it said.

Casualties in the vans and cars sector were also down, dropping from 4,783 to 4,454.
