• Dangerous and badly maintained vans are to be targeted in a Vehicle Inspectorate campaign of light CV spot checks throughout Britain.
The crackdown will start in April in two or three VI areas, but will be extended until every district is running spot checks twice a month.
A light CV spot check of 77 vehicles carried out by the YE and police in Bristol last November resulted in a 56% immediate prohibition rate. "Several went straight to the scrapyard under police escort," says the VI.
