• In Liverpool on Tuesday the North Western deputy LA, Mr. G. K. Newman, resumed the section 177 inquiry which he adjourned last year (CM July 12 1968) in respect of the renewal of A and B licences of Brennans Road Services Ltd. and its subsidiary company H. R. Morrison Ltd. The companies had been placed in the hands of C. A. Huntingdon and Co. by Martins Bank.

Mr. J. E. Jones, for the applicant, said that Brennans was no longer in business and he asked the LA to refuse its application. The further application was for a confirmation of one vehicle, at present being worked on a short-term A licence, and the adding of another vehicle to be acquired. Mr. Newman had said in October that he would grant a short-term licence for two vehicles, but only one vehicle had been registered and this was on February 3.

Mr. F. W. Taylor, chartered accountant, of Huntingdon and Co., said there were customers who would use the two vehicles. The vehicle which had been operating on the short-term licence had been bought by the receiver from Mr. Cameron, Mr. Newman commented that Mr. Cameron and Valway Ltd. had both apparently been using this vehicle and asked Mr. Taylor if he realized that he was responsible for aiding and abetting somebody else to operate it. Mr. Taylor said that he was not aware of this but had understood that up to February 3 his company could not use it; as the vehicle was not licensed to his company he had allowed it to be used otherwise.

Mr. Newman said he thought that the vehicle had been misused. He had given the receiver since October to get the business on its feet, but nothing appeared to have been done.

Mr. Jones asked for another short-term A licence for two vehicles, one of 7; tons in possession and one of 3 tons to he acquired. Mr. Newman granted this licence for a threemonth period, saying he thought this would enable the applicant to clear up the situation. The B licence application of Brennans" was refused.
