It was understood that liquid chemicals included tar and tar products and that no term in the normal user induded either edible oils or petroleum spirit for internal combustion engines.

The application would be reduced to 27 • vehicles of which three would fall under Section 174(4)(d) for maintenance purposes. Two undertakings would be given: to Brit ish Railways, formerly objectors, that cement would be carried only for Ribblesdale Cement Co. Ltd. to non-rail connected points and, secondly, that Gilbraith would not put any additional vehicles on Contract A licence for any customer who had given evidence, other than ICI Ltd., for two years. This would not, of course, exclude them applying for additional open A vehicles.

Mr. Hodgson said Gilbraith had presented such a strong case that he had been inclined to grant the application in full. He had been impressed by the comprehensive figures and evidence and by the company's maintenance arrangements.

The application was granted as amended.
