NAEMBERSHIP of the clearing house 01 group of the Road Haulage Association has been opened to hauliers whose business includes a certain minimum volume of sub-contracting. The Association would not state the figure when asked this week.
At present the clearing house group has 17 members. Clearing houses owning vehicles and engaged in longdistance haulage may also join the new long-distance hauliers' functional group.
These developments are aimed at drawing the interests of hauliers and clearing houses -closer together.
B.R.S. START EFFICIENCY IDEAS AWARD SCHEME
TAX-FREE cash awards are being I offered by British Road Services for efficiency suggestions put forward by their staff.
All suggestions will be considered by an adjudicating committee, and amounts of not less than £2 2s. will be paid for worthwhile ideas. An award may also be made for a rejected suggestion if it is obvious that it has involved a great deal of work and thought.
In a cartoon-illustrated booklet which is being distributed to employees throughout the country, the emphasis is on the question: " Is there a better way?"
Staff are told that they need not deal with their immediate superiors if they feel they would rather send their schemes direct to headquarters in London.
N.R.T.F. WARN COUNCILS
LOCAL councils were told in a letter .1–+ circulated last week that the National Road Transport Federation would object to traffic restriction orders which did not permit vehicles to stop to load and unload passengers or goods, or to carry out.construction or demolition work. It was stated that any order which discriminated against any class of commercial vehicle would also be opposed in principle.
It is understood that the response by councils to the circular has already been encouraging.
