By April 1, 1984, bus operators will no longer be able to claim New Bus Grant from the Government towards the cost of new stage carriage vehicles. This will have the effect of significantly increasing depreciation costs. The rate now has been reduced from 50 per cent to — since April 1, 1982 — 20 per cent of approved costs.
Since the NBG came in, says Alan Dodd, the psv scene has changed and this grant became a lifeline. There are only two ways out, he says: cuts in services or more efficient operation.
