WALSALL'S BUSES HAVE A BUSY YEAR

WALSALL Corporation has recently VI' issued its report dealing with municipal passenger-transport operation in the town in the year ended March 31 last, and it shows that the mileage run by motorbuses was 3,967,995, representing an increase of 223,101 miles over the previous year. Traffic receipts amounted to £331,514, and working expenses to £259,605. The grosssurplus for the year was £71,909, and after paying interest on loans and meeting depreciation and income-tax charges, there was a net surplus of £23,389.

In the case of the trolleybuses, the mileage run was 745,709—higher by 46,081 miles than the figure for the previous year. Traffic receipts amounted to £68,726, and working expenses to £46,060. The gross surplus was £?2,666, the net figure, after paying interest on loans, etc., coming out at £6,587.

At the end of March last, Walsall Corporation was operating 15/3 motorbuses and 25 trolleybuses. The report mentions that 60 double-deck vehicles, of which 30 have been in service since 1931, are overdue for replacement.

TILLING AND B.A.T. DIVIDEND

FOR the half-year ended June 30 last, a dividend of 4 per cent., less income tax, has been declared on the cumulative 8 per cent. participating preference shares of Tilling and British Automobile Traction, Ltd.

BRINGING TAY ROAD BRIDGE PLANS UP TO DATE

FOLLOWING the statement made in Parliament by 41r. Noel-Baker, Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry -of War Transport, that he was prepared to consider proposals for the construction of road bridges over the Firth and Tay, Dundee Corporation's Lord Provost's Committee has appointed a sub-committee to bring up to date the 1936 plans for a road bridge over the Tay for submission to the Ministry.

NEW AVON TYRE DIRECTORS MR. R. H. COMLEY and Mn. 0. P. Swasnsoaouon have been appointed joint managing directors of the Avon India Rubber Co., Ltd. They had 'previously acted as joint general managers.
