Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GOVERNMENT moves to meet the concern about the transport of dangerous chemicals and other substances by road were called for in the Commons last week.

Labour MP Ron Thomas (Bristol North West) asked Transport Minister William Rodgers, for an assurance that he would try to ensure that more of these substances went by rail, or that he would introduce regulations to ensure that the vehicles concerned were properly maintained.

The MP also wanted the police to have authority to stop vehicles which did not meet the regulations.

Mr Rodgers said that Mr Thomas was right to draw attention to some of the dangers of the carriage of goods by road, and he would like an increasing proportion of all kinds of freight to go by rail.
