I N a comment to an applicant for a B licence to operate a vehicle for the transport of livestock, Mr. Archibald Henderson, Scottish Licensing Authority, said at a public inquiry in Glasgow, that the carriage of livestock was a highly competitive business. "I have the idea," he added, "that it is very lucrative, because nothing is fought out more keenly here."
The applicant, Mr. James Smith, Eaglesham, stated that, if granted the licence, his father's firm, Messrs. T. and J. Smith, cattle dealers, Eaglesham, ,would provide enough work to enable him to run the vehicle three days per week on the movement of cattle to and from markets. He could find sufficient work during the other three days.
The application was refused.
