Andrew Taggart is the new general manager of A. C. Penman Ltd, Scocros Ltd's bodybuilding subsidiary. He will be responsible for vehicle body and specialist defence equipment.

Doug Boyle succeeds Andy Barr as quality director of Leyland Vehicle Ltd's Medium and Light Vehicle Division, based in Edinburgh. He joined Leyland in 1976 as group supplier quality assurance manager and will now be responsible for activities at the company's Scotstoun and Bathgate plants.

Employment Secretary Albert Booth has appointed Harry Urwin to the Advisory, Conciliation, and Arbitration Service council. He is deputy general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union and a member of the TUC's general council.

Greater London Council's new director of planning and transportation is Gordon Ridley, former chief engineer (traffic). He joined the former London County Council in 1963, and moved to his present position in 1967.

Terry O'Brien, who is responsible for marketing the Chris Hudson group's Monoframe semi-trailer, has been given a place on the company's main board.

' Three Monoframe companies were created earlier this year to produce trailer chassis, designed to increase cargo capacity for TIR haulage operators.

Bill Armsden is managing director of Thompson Jewitt's newly-formed company, T. J. Ocean Services. He has over 12 years' experience of international freight forwarding, particularly to the Middle East, Australia, and America.

C. I. Thompson is the new sales manager at Advance Motor Supplies Ltd, part of the Sheepbridge Engineering group. He joins the company from Peter Skinner Ltd, where he held a similar position.

Three of Midland Red's headquarters staff, who have clocked up 150 years service among them, will be chief guests at a presentation dinner on November 2. They are staff officer Ron Turner, stores controller Ernest Stockton and Henry Price who is in charge of the company's clothing stores.

The company boasts the staggering number of 419 employees with at least 25 years' service, six of whom have completed 40 years. Among these six long-stayers is one woman, telephonist Barbara Taylor whose voice is by now well known to callers at the Birmingham head office.

Obituaries

We, record with regret the deaths of Eric Fitzpayne, former Glasgow Corporation Transport general manager, and Charles Belton, ex-general manager of Edbro in London.

Mr Fitzpayne, who was 74, was Glasgow's transport chief for almost 30 years, during which time he presided over the changeover from tramcars to buses and saw in and out the city's trolleybus system.

Mr Belton died aged 63. He was a director of Edbro in Bolton, and a main board member in London. He retired as general manager after 17 years' service, due to ill-health.
