Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THREE MEN who broke down stolen trucks into scrap have been jailed for a total of 10 years. The gang from Bilston,West Midlands, received stolen trucks worth a total of £279,000.

Their case coincides with mourning concern over the use of stolen parts to repair salvage trucks. The issue is due to be discussed by the Joint Action Group on LorryTheft later this month. Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how a yard in Dudley, where the trucks were dismantled, was monitored by CCTV, leading to the gang's arrest.

Paul Jones was jailed for four years, his brother Scott for three years and Mark Everitt for three years. Everitt's sentence included two years for a burglary offence. All three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to handle stolen vehicles.

Chris Kelly, chairman of West Midlands Scania dealership Keltruck. welcomes their sentences but warns truck theft could rise following the end of Operation Coppergold. This used a team of dedicated officers to crack down on truck theft across the area.

West Midlands Police say the unit has simply been expanded to incorporate all vehicle crime across the region under the new name of Operation Safer Motors (CM 25 September).
