THIS week Mr. Leslie Spriggs (Labour St. A Helens) asked for legislation to give protectiOn against the dismissal of a driver who reported a defective lorry or any other type of vehicle, or an employee who called the Ministry of Transport inspectors to check an overloaded vehicle.

Mr. Stephen Swingler, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, said that Mrs. Castle did not think that this was a matter which could satisfactorily be solved by legislation and he was writing to Mr. Spriggs about the particular cases he raised.
