WEIGHT restrictions in the London area would penalise Berger Paints more than its rival companies, as it has more business In the Greater London area, said Ron Moody, group transport menager of Berger Paints.
,vver 35m litres of its product to go into London for exit and sale, Mr Moody expigined. Its two main competitors, ICI and Crown, do not depend nearly as much on London, and so could only benefit at Berger's expense.
In the London region, Berger employs 30 drivers and has 42 lorries. There are seven 32.5 tonne gvw lorries, 30 at the 12 tonne mark, plus five 32.5 tonne changeover vehicles and seven additional drivers based outside London. The total investment in the fleet is £868,000, Mr Moody calculated.
