DECISIONS on the prbtra.cted ticket appeals by Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., and others, have been announced by the Minister of Transport. The principles raised related to the period of validity of, and other modifications to, ordinary return tickets, the issue of eight-day tourist tickets, cheap dayreturn fares and through bookings.

The Minister has upheld the decisions of the Northern, Yorkshire and NorthWestern Commissioners in refusing tourist tickets, cheap fares and through bookings. He accepts generally the recommendations of Sir Henry Wynne. who heard the appeals, concerning the ordinary return tickets, and has decided to make no order, except in relation to two specific fares.

Broadly, there are no cheap return fares on the company's system after 2 p.m, on Saturday or at any time on Sunday, in relation to single fares under 10d. The company proposed to issue cheap return tickets on every day of the week and a reduction in revenue was anticipated. To meet the deficit, it was proposed to abolish the 3d. return fare and to increase from 6d. to 7d. the "return" in connection with the 4d. "single."

The Commissioners rejected these proposals, but Sir Henry Wynne contended that they had not sufficient evidence to justify their decisions on these two fares. The Minister agrees with Sir Henry, but he is not satisfied that there is evidence to justify him in making the Order recommended.

He wishes to promote uniformity of fares. Therefore, he has directed that the 3d. and Cid. " returns" on weekdays should be left unaltered and that they should not be issued after 2 p.m. on Saturday or on Sunday, so that evidence will be obtainable for some future review of the situation. No Order as to costs has been made.
