• One-man operated buses will go into service in most parts of Dunbartonshire later this year after the acceptance on June 12 of a new system by the 500 busmen employed by Central SMT at Old Kilpatrick.

An official for the management said that this meant they could go ahead with the introduction of new buses and the conversion of its present fleet.

Mr. Phil Jenkins, Glasgow district TGWU officer, said that the new system would benefit platform staff by 10s more per week and the drivers of one-man buses would receive an extra 171 per cent on their basic rate.
