The conductor on a No. 1S bus came up to us and asked:— " Did you feel my driver pull up sharp, then? He spotted a jolly fine spanner in the road, and got it. He's got wonderful eyesight. The other night we were crossing Ludgate Circus ; it was raining, and as muddy as you like. He pulled up suddenly, and beckoned to me. Says he, there's a penny over there by the gutter ; go and get it.' Mind you, it Was the same colour as the road, and 1 didn't find it all at once. I tell you, some eyesight, nty mate's got."
