Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EDDIE STOBART Ltd is a recent success story in Carlisle haulage, with a fleet now of 22 hardworking artics and one eight-wheeler.

With a solid base of traffic from Metal Box, the family-owned firm has developed a smart depot near the MG with a 100,000sqft warehouse and a £,30,000 truck and trailer wash.

"It's very handy for the motorway north and south," says Eddie Stobart. "You can do Scotland and back in a day on the one side, and do the return trip to the South of England in two days."

Two new Ford Cargo 32.5-tonners with Cummins 1,10s are surprising additions to the fleet of a dozen Dafs, mainly 2800s, five Volvo FlOs and three Scania 112 Intercoolers. • The Cargos save on diesel_ The fleet average was 7mpg, but after three months the Fords are returning 8.5mpg. They are best suited to carrying cans, of which a 15f t high curtainsider carries just 10 tonnes. The Fords are worse on hills, says Eddie Stobart, but saving over the year, vvith tractive units averaging 90,000 miles, cannot be ignored. The firm might get another four.

Most of the drivers are less keen on the Cargo because of its size, but it has its fans, he says.

Eddie Stobart's artics are usually very clean, and the reason is a Karcher wash, bought last Liaturrin. It washes the ends as well as the sides, and trailers are put through at least once a week Other hauliers can use the wash on applicatiot
