SOUTH YORKSHIRE PTE is to sell all its Scania Metropolitan double-deckers next year, and other modern buses will follow.
The four Metropolitans, bought in 1975 as part of the undertaking's vehicle evaluation programme, have proved troublesome in service.
It costs four times as much to maintain them as Leyland Atlanteans in the fleet. Twiceweekly checks on their dualcircuit brakes are particularly expensive.
South Yorkshire is to rationalise its fleet by selling 18 Bristol VRTs built in 1972, and some Seddon RUs and older Daimler Fleetlines.
