TT may be fairly claimed that "The 'Motor Manual" and the popular motor movement have grown up together. The successive editions of this handbook serve as a reliable guide to the development of motoring from its beginning. In text and illustration every phase and stage of development of automobile construction and practice is portrayed.

In presenting a new and twentysixth edition several marked changes will be obvious.

There are 19 chapters in the new edition of "The Motor Manual," covering the subject in a concise and easily understandable, way. Chapter I treats of the engine, its operation and the features .04 eenistruction of all types, in eluding sleeve-valve and two-stroke units. Chapter II explains the power unit and deals with the subjects of carburation and carburetters, cooling, supercharging, silencing. The transmission system is dealt with thoroughly in Chapter III, from clutch to final drive, including a clear description of the differential gear. Braking systems are fully explained in Chanter IV, including servo systems and front-brake mechanism.

The various electrical applications to a car-ignition, starting and lightingare covered in Chapters VI and VII, in which many excellent illustrations are Included. Types of bodywork, allweather equipment, detachable wheels, tyres and accessories are a few of the headings in succeeding chapters. Then follow a series of chapters, fully illustrated, on choosing, housing and cleaning a car.

A very important and thoroughly revised chapter is that concerning the motorist and the law, the procedure for car licensing and registration, taxation, rules of the road and traffic regulations.

The concluding chapter comprises an extensive glossary of motoring technical terms invaluable for reference. A very instructive detailed illustration of an up-to-date chassis is included as a frontispiece.
