Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The founder of a business which collapsed owing at least £30,000 to drivers it promised to set up as hauliers is vowing to repay them every penny by the end of the year.

Kevin Wilde says that he is writing to six recruits of his Linwood, Paisley-based scheme promising to pay them back in instalments.

Originally he says he had acted on legal advice to ignore the creditors' claims after his family had been subjected to a hate campaign (CM 25 Nov-1 Dec 1993). But he has conceded that "at the end of the day they have to be paid".

However, his creditors deny victimising his family and are sceptical that Wilde will meet his promise. They are considering what action to take. One has hired Hinckley, Leicestershire-based debt collector Impact Business Centre.

One of Impact's tactics is to display how much money a person owes to one of its clients on a 12-metre billboard outside their home or business.
