• Sandhu Bakery warning from West Midland Deputy Traffic Commissioner Gerrard Sullivan after four immediate and two delayed prohibitions were imposed on its vehicles in roadside checks.

Director T E Sandhu said vehicle examiners inspected its premises twice and were satisfied with the maintenance.

Sullivan said one vehicle stopped by West Midland Police was said to be in a "thoroughly unroadworthy condition". He also wanted to know why two vehicles were untaxed. Sandhu said one of those vehicles had been off the road a long time being used for spare parts. The other vehicle had been sold while taxed.

Commenting on a vehicle said to have three defective tyres, Sandhu said the tyres were not in stock Servicing the air system had left oil on the cylinders. The air brake system was found to be satisfactory at the test station.

Sandhu said the vehicles were inspected every four weeks. Either the drivers did not report the defects, or if they did, they had not been rectified by the fitter.

Sullivan gave the company a verbal warning and said it was no use having a system unless it operated effectively.
