Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In trance on M25

NI A Murfitts Transport driver received a 12-month prison sentence last week for killing a policeman on the M25 after falling into "a trance". He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

The judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court suspended the term for 18 months because of "exceptional circumstances".

He said the truck driver David Gibson, 42, was very tired at the wheel of his articulated vehicle after having had less than seven hours sleep in the two days leading up to the accident in October 1992.

In a police interview Gibson had denied to the police that he had fallen asleep but agreed he must have been "in some sort of trance" at the time.
