tion. A conventional thrower ring (1) is provided as a first defence against leakage. Any oil passing this is dealt with by a resilient washer (2), which is split for assembly and is held by the crankcase at the bottom and by a detachable member (3) at the top. The washer is annularly grooved, leaving a thin lip which, when assembled under light compression, makes a slight rubbing contact with the crankshaft. Thc washer may be made of oil-resisting rubber.
