8 A demountable body system has been evolved by Acoma (Bilston) Lyd, Dale Street, Bilston, Staffs for under30cwt-unladen vehicles, that is operated manually by means of a scissors action mechanism mounted on the chassis. When it is applied to a Ford Transit 118 35cwt diesel-engined chassis the vehicle has a payload capacity of 37cwt.
Two crank handles are located at the rear of the vehicle, the two scissors mechanisms on each side being joined by a rod. Detachable legs are fitted into tubes of square section at the four corners of the body after it has been raised by the scissors jacks.
