AUSBFUL directory of road-franc'port cafés, at ad. net, has just been issued by the Road Trarfsport Catering and Accommodation Joint Committee, 13. Elizabeth Street, London, W .1.

. In respect of this, the joint secretaries, Messrs. H. R. Nicholas and G. W. Quick Smith, have sent a letter , to the secretaries of the various roadtransport associations, In this, it is pointed out that since the early day of the war the Road Haulage Central Wages Board has made every. effort to ensure adequate facilities' for rest and refreshment for road-transport workers, and to carry this out more effectively, the employers' and workers' representatives formed the above-mentioned committee in August, 1942.

Several conferences have taken place With the Ministry of Labour regarding café staffs, with the Ministry of Food in connection with supplies of rationed and •unrationed foods, and with the M.O.W.T. on a variety of questions, . • considerable irhprovements having been effected. For example, as a result of the &lard's efforts, in any case where 60 per cent, or more of the customers are manual workers, the establishment concerned may be registered as a Category " B" Catering Establishment,"thus becoming entitled to additional allowances cm the same basis as industrial canteens.

Individual proprietors have also been given advice upon many problems.

As regards the directory of cafés, it is suggested that employers should purchase this for distribution to men engaged on long-distance work. Revised additions and supplements will be issued from time to time. Any errors or omissions should be brought to the notice of the Cammitteq. The directory is arranged with the countie.s in alphabetical order, and with the nearest town or village to each cafe arranged in the same manner. There is a key to the accOmmodation provided.
