Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH REFERENCE to the article "Tighter loads, better bays can cut costs," (CM, March 30), I feel that one answer may be to reverse the distribution process.

At present, manufacturers and distributors load their vehicles at their premises and send them out to make their deliveries in the High Street. If the position was reversed and the High Street retailers operated or hired transport, they could send large vehicles to make several pick-ups from the various warehouses away from the busy town centre, and then make one large delivery to their premises and cut down on the number of vehicles delivering in the High Street.

This would surely cut down on vehicles queueing outside shops and speed up the delivery process. It would also probably cut down the number of vehicles used as there would be fewer small vehicles needed and they could be replaced by larger vehicles.
