• Work is expected to begin shortly on erecting tensioned beam safety barriers along 34 miles of the central reservation of the MI from the interchange near Kegworth in Leicestershire through West Nottinghamshire to the interchange at Barlborough in Derbyshire. Mr John Peyton has announced that the £348,721 tender of Amey Roadstone Construction Ltd for the work, expected to take approximately 4+ months, has been accepted.
The barriers are designed to reduce the incidence of "cross-over" accidents on this section of M1 and to minimize the adverse effects of vehicles returned to the traffic stream.
