Gazette No. 21 of the Southern Scotland Area shows that the Traffic Commissioners have arranged several sittings to be held in September, at which a large number of applications for stagecarriage licences will be made. An interesting application is that of the Scottish General Transport Co., Ltd., for permission to operate services hes tween Paisley and Manchester, Blackpool and Liverpool, the L.M.S. and L.N.E. railway companies objecting in each case.

The Commissioners for the Northern Area are shown in their Gazette No. 11 to have granted a large number of licences, 'United Automobile Services,

Ltd., being among the recipient undertakings. The Loudon-Newcastle service of Majestic Saloon Coaches (Newcastle and London), Ltd., has been authorized.

Gazette No. 19 of the Yorkshire Commissioners is devoted to lists of applications made and not yet beard, no decisions being announced. No future sittrigs have yet been arranged.

The corporations of Manchester, Bury, Salford and Stockport are amongst the undertakings that have been granted licences by the North Western Traffic Commissioners, whilst the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., is amongst the private companies. Gazette No. 17 of this area shows that numerous applications to operate tours have been received.

The Birmingham and Midland Omnibus Co., Ltd., the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., and Yorkshire (Woollen District) Electric Tramways, Ltd., are three well-known concerns which are shown in Gazette No. 22 of the West Midland Traffic Commissioners to have lodged applications for licences. Many applications are listed for hearing at the sitting of the Commissioners at Hanley, and the "representations or objections" column is well supported by the names of important concerns, including the Potteries Electric Traction Co. Ltd., the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., and Crosville Motor Services, Ltd.

The gazettes of the Eastern Traffic Commissioners are at present being issued fortnightly, but Gazette No. 21. for this area announces the fact that, after September 7th, weekly publication will be resumed.

The Commissioners have granted a large number of licences, notably to the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., and the Peterborough Electric Traction Co., Ltd. Amongst the concerns that have been, refused lieences may be mentioned the 'United Automobile Services, Ltd., Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., Eastern National Omnibus Ce., Ltd., and Eastern Counties Road Car Co., Ltd.

Gazette No. 19 of the South Wales Traffic Commissioners consists of only eight pages and deals chiefly with applications to operate tours. No future ' sittings are announced.

Included in the applications that have been received by the Traffic Commissioners for the Southern Area is one from Black and White Motorways, Ltd., for permission to operate between Cheltenham and London, Southsea, Bournemouth and Kettering. Another applicant for licences for long-distance services is Mr. Arthur Young, trading as the Red Warrior Coaches, who seeks permission to cover the Birminghamham-Bournemouth and BirminghamEastbourne routes.

Gazette No. 24 for the South Eastern Area shows that Messrs. L. It. Warren, trading as Rosemary Coaches, have been refused licences to operate between Rams-gate and London. Grey Cars, Ltd., has been refused lieences for the London-Torquay route,, as have Messrs. W. E. Blunt in respect of the TootingBournemouth and TootingsSoutlisea routes. On the other hand, numerous undertakings have been granted licences, particularly in respect of tours and excursions.

The usual objectors will be present at the Metropolitan Commissioner's sitting at Westminster, on September 7th, these including the Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., the Southern Railway Co., the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., and the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Co. Holmes and Smith, Ltd., which will seek application to operate excursions and tours from Walthamstow, is opposed by no fewer than 12 concerns. Long-distance routes for which licences have been refused include those between London and Brighton and London and Eastbourne. Numerous applications in respect of services to seaside resorts have been made and are yet to receive attention.
