NEW STEWART RANGE

F01/ 1932 Morgan Hastings, Ltd., .212, New King's Road, London, S.W.6, which holds the marketing tights throughout Great Britain and Ireland for Stewart chassis, will have a wide range of chassis to offer, these extending from a 30-cwt. four-cylinder type at £245 to a 6-ton six-cylinder model at £1,150, and including an eight-cylinder 5-tonner at £950.

The smaller models are those which are likely to attract most attention over here and, in particular, the 2-ton class will be of interest. The SO-cwt. type now has a fun-floating rear axle and an even stronger chassis frame, but otherwise it is offered in the form in• which it has been available hitherto, having a four-e3dindered engine of 3i-in.

bore and stroke, which develops 50 b.h.p. It is also available with a six-cylindered engine of 3-in, bore and ft-in, stroke, developing 60 b.h.p. The standard wheelbase is 10 ft. 10 ins. and the standard final-drive ratio 5.6 to 1.

A unit-constructed four-speed gearbox is fitted. The tyre size is 6.5 ins. by 20 ins. (low pressure), single tyres being fitted at the rear (twins can be fitted at slight extra cost), whilst the brake equipment comprises mechanically operated liendix four-wheel brakes. The price of the six-cylinder model is £255, or 110 more than the four-cylinder machine.

The principal feature of the two 2-ton models is that the prices, especially for the long wheelbase sizes, have beev much reduced. The engines fitted are of the

same types as in the 30-cwt. chassis, the four-cylinder machine of 10-ft. 10-in. wheelbase costing £285 and the sixcylinder chassis only £10 more. These figures represent reductions of respectively £10 and £25, but in the 13-ft. 4-in. chassis the prices are redhead from £335 to 1295 (four-cylinder) and from £360 to £310 (six-cylinder). The drive is conveyed by an 11-in, dry-plate clutch and unit-built four-speed gearbox, through a spiral-bevel 5.0-to-1 final drive to full-floating axle shafts. Steel-spoke wheels aye fitted, with 6.50-in. by 20-in. low-pressure tyres, twin tyres being used at the rear. Four-wheel Bendix brakes (14-in. by 2-in. front, 16-in. by 2-in rear), and Ross earn-and-lever steering gear are standardized, and the semi-elliptic suspension incorporates heavier rear springs instead of the auxiliary springs.

The new 2i-tonner, whilst scarcely differing from last year's machine, is now available at £360, as against £485. This chassis has a six-cylindered engine of 3i-in. bore and, 4-in; stroke, developing 62 b.h.p. The standard wheelbase is reduced from 13 ft. 4 ins. to 12 ft. 1 in. ;

wheelbases 6f 13 ft. 4 ins. and 14 ft.

7 ins, are available. The final-drive ratio of the full-floating axle. is now 5.6 to 1 instead of 6.8. Again, 6.50-in. by 20-in. low-pressure tyres (twin rear) are fitted, and in this case auxiliary rear springing is adopted.

A heavy-duty 2-i-tonner is now available at 1435, this embodying the same type of engine, but a semi-floating 6.37to-1 rear axle. The wheelbase and tyre size are unaltered, but this chassis has a pair of radius rods to the rear 'axle.

The larger machines are a 3-tonner at £485, a 31-touner at £575, a 4-tonner at £695, a 4-thnner (heavy-duty) at £725, a 41-tonner (heavy-duty) at £795, a 5tanner at £.875, a heavy-duty 5-tonner with six or eight-cylindered engine at 1950, and an extra-heavy-duty 6-tonner at 11.150.
