• Optare has won its biggest single order ever and the largest for the Vecta midibus launched early last year.
The Westcourt Group's North East Bus, the former Caldaire business which owns United Auto, Tees & District and Teesside Motor Services, is spending £4.5 million on 56 buses for 1993 delivery, 41 of which are Vectas.
These 10.1-metre 42-seaters are based on MAN's 11.180 rear-engined chassis, and will replace elderly Bristol LHs.
NE Bus is also buying 15 more Daf SB220-based Optare Delta 49-seat single-deckers.
Optare also has a repeat order for 22 three-door Deltas from British Airways, joining 23 already used at London Heathrow.
