Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Meat hauliers may be innocently helping to supply unfit meat to schools and shops.

The Institute for Environmental Health Officers (1EHO) is urging local authorities to help stop an illegal trade in meat unfit for human consumption. In the latest incident, Taunton Deane Borough Council has taken out a prosecution following the checking of a lorry load of unfit meat, and a similar load has been discovered at Smithfield market.

One refrigerated transport specialist believes that "no haulier worth his salt would get involved", and that instead the criminals are hiring reefer units. But the RHA is not so sure: "The haulier does what the customer asks and carries meat from A to B — he is not qualified as a veterinary surgeon."
