• Waste disposal specialist Grundon, has opened a new million greenfield-site at Beenham, near Reading, which will provide more efficient collections of trade and industrial waste in Berkshire and Hampshire.

According to director Richie Bray, the new site, which takes over the work previously handled at the company's old Reading depot. will allow vehicles to be more efficiently repaired and maintained, as well as provide room for its waste containers to be refurbished.

Administration at the new Reading site will he streamlined with computerbased records and the invoicing and control of the 26 waste collection vehicles. Trade customers served by Beenham will number nearly 3,000.

The Reading-based fleet has increased considerably in the Eighties; the lorries based at Beenham represent about 30% of the total Grundon fleet. The other operating bases are at Colnbrook, near Heathrow Airport, Ewelme (Wallingford). Banbury, and Leighton Buzzard.

Nine of the vehicles are equipped to empty customers' containers on the spot.
