Healey was speaking at the signing of the accreditation of the company's technical centre at Tingley, Yorkshire, for NVQ Level 2 in automotive glazing. The signing was witnessed by Professor Peter Thompson of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications, and Autoglass managing director John Hill, who said he sees the introduction of a complete training package at Tingley as establishing a pattern of progression for the industry.

The accreditation was signed by representatives of the NVCI and the Road Transport Industry Training Board.

Seventeen of Autoglass's staff have passed through the RTITI3's training centre at Gainsborough and eventually each of the company's 150plus branches will need a recognised trainer.

These qualifications may well represent the first stage towards recognition throughout the European Community of the skills needed for the industry, says the company.
