A LEADING comedy actor and writer, Michael Palin, has become chair of Transport 2000, the environmental and pro-public transport pressure group.

Palin, best known as a member of the television Monty Python teani between 1969 and 1974, succeeds a London architect, Harley Sherlock. Sherlock is leading member of the Royal

histitute of British Architects and has been Transport 2000 chair since 1981.

A statement from Transport 2000 says that Palin first become interested in transport at the age of two when he travelled on a bus in Sheffield. More recently, he appeared in one of the BBC Great Train Journeys cy rite World series in 1980.
