FORD'S recovery from the doldrums of its 1978 strike continues, according to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures. They show that 8741 commercial vehicles (out of 24,090 total) were registered in January this year.

This is a leap up from the 4661 registered in January 1979 (out of 21,895 total) and continues a trend which placed Ford at the top in 1979. And 36 Ford Transcontinental lorries were imported from Holland in January, compared to 25 last year.

Austin Morris light van registrations are down from 4461 in 1979 to 3399 this year, -and even Leyland Vehicles shows a slight slip — from 1016 to 1005. Land Rover is down from 698 to 592.

Bedford has plunged drastically from 4593 to 2686, but fellow Dunstable builder Dodge is up from 1067 to 1101.

Imports have risen from 4690 to 5710, with Volvo rising from 189 to 350, and Toyota light vans up from 180 to 460.
