• Despite the Chancellor's announcement last week that there must be a £10m reduc tion in public spending in the transport sector and that there would be £100m cut-back in the road-building programme, Midlands BRS has published its plans for the development of its 18 depots in the Midlands which is going to cost Lim.
In addition, Mr John Peyton has stated that no road contracts will be cancelled and the total road programme will continue to increase by 1974-75.
The expansion plans of Midlands DRS were announced last week by the company's managing director, Mr Kenneth Cook, and besides involving the depot development, which is to start immediately, will also include diversification into "other areas of physical distribution". Members of the National Association of Warehouse Keepers were told last week by Mr Peyton that the Government's cuts would not affect existing road contracts. Mr Peyton said that £40m would come from maintenance.
