Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CUSTOMS OFFICERS have seized five tankers and over 13,000 litres of illegal fuel as part of their crackdown on fuel laundering in Northern Ireland.

Following the detection of two tankers running on a paraffin/ diesel rnixduring a roadside check, three more tankers were seized in a follow-up operation at a site in Belfast in the last week of June by Customs.

Tests on fuel in a storage tank resulted in the seizure of 13,000 litres of contaminated fuel.

The vehicles were returned on payment of £5,000 but the company faces an investigation to establish the extent of the misuse.

Colin McAllister, Customs' head of detection in Northern Ireland, says:" Illegal fuel, whether used commercially or privately, undermines honest businesses and robs the honest taxpayer of funds which should go into public services.

"Companies willing to use illegal fuel have an unfair advantage and are therefore making it more difficult for legitimate companies to compete."
