Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE turbocharged Cummins 290 engine is likely to be offered as an option to the two-stroke Detroit Diesel in the Bedford TM range.

At present, the TM 3250 and 3800 machines are fitted with the V6 and V8 Detroits producing 161 and 221kW (216 and 297bhp) respectively.

When tested to DIN 70020, the Cummins 290 develops 207kW (278bhn).

The heavy TM lorries have never fulfilled the sales promise that was expected of them when they were announced in 1974.

Quite recently, Eastern and western BRS decided against buying TMs following their experiences with the 3250 model — although the fleet engineers were happy with the truck, they were less happy with the engine.

It would appear that the addition of a Cummins option is to satisfy the demands of operators who like the Bedford but not the Detroit Dielsel.
