FARMERS are beginning to appreciate the economies, which can be achieved by • handling grain and feed materials in bulk. The new bulkcarrying vehicles that are to be displayed at the Royal Show, which opens at Cambridge next Tuesday, indicate this. Other exhibits of interest to the haulier concerned with agriculture will be, in the main, confined to cattle trucks and livestock containers.

The Show, which closes on July 8, is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the first day, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the remainder of the week. Admission on the opening day is £.1 up to 5 p.m. and 2s. 6d. after this time. Charges on other days are:•Wednesdav, 10s. to 1 p.m. and 5s. after; Thursday. 7s. 6d. to I p.m. and 5s. after: Friday, 5s. to 1 p.m. and 2s. 6d. after. Reduced rates are available for children under 15.

The DunnSpencer Bulkflo body for the zarriage of grain in bulk will be shown on Stand C7 by Dunifs Motors, Ltd.. Taunton, Somerset. The unit is novel in that it is self-loading by suction with dis.7.harge by blowing in the normal manner. The equipment can handle 16-18 tons of wheat per hour. using 60-ft.-long pipelines, and will blow material to heights up to 40 ft. at the same rate.

Any material which can 'be conveyed pneumatically may be handled by the Barfitt Mark 5 bulk-grain body to be :xhibited by Murtitt (Bulk Transporters), Ltd., 1Pswich, on an eight-wheeled chassis Stand KW). The double-skin tipping body is 22 ft.. long, 6 ft. 6 in. deep and is fabricated from light alloy.

A Roots-type blower delivers 600 elm. 3f air, allowing up to 30 tons of material per hour to be discharged into standard dorace bins. Horseboxes are the speciality of Vincents of Reading. Ltd., Station Square, Reading, and two such vehicles will be displayed b.■ them on Stand 3. A novel dual-purpose vehicle based on an Austin forward-control chassis will carry four horses or, when the padded partitions are removed,-eight or nine cattle.

A double deck can be fitted for the carriage of sheep. The other body, also mounted on a B.M.C. forward-control chassis, provides accommodation for four horses. A groom's compartment is incorporated.

An unusual chassis for such an application has been chosen for the two-stall horsebox to he exhibited by 0. C. Smith (Coachworks), Loughborough. on Stand 7. It is a Morris normal-control

2-tonner. A low-frame Thames Trader chassis and cab is the basis for a generalpurpose cattle body to be displayed, whilst a livestock container and platform body of composite construction will he seen on an Austin 5-ton chassis.

A. C. Penman, Ltd., Dumfries, arc to have two Austin forward-control 7-tonners with platform bodies on .Stand 9. One will carry a two-deck livestock container finished in grained wood. A similar container will be mounted on the other chassis, but in this case the body Will be panelled in light alloy. A new ramp to the upper deck has been devised for the aluminium container.

A livestock transporter, fitted with sheep decks and clad in mahogany will be exhibited by Carmichael and Sons (Worcester): Ltd., Worcester (Stand 2). Thc body is to be,shown on a Leyland ,Comet. CS3 chassis. An 18-ft-long container, also provided with sheep decks, will be mounted on a Commer 7-ton forward-control chassis and cab.

The.ROver Co., _Ltd.. Solihull, usually have the privilege of being the only vehicle manufacturers exhibiting at thee Show, and this year is no exception. Both shortand long-wheelbase versions of the, Series II Land-Rover will appear, together with a working demonstration of the various attachnients for this vehicle

(Stand F12). •

Traiteri of all types are to be shown by F. W. Wheatley (Trailers),. Ltd.: Peterborough (Stand H46). .Among them will be a two-wheeled low-loading model specially designed for the carriage of

crawler tractors. The platform fitted measures 12 ft. by 6 ft. The trailer costs £125.

The 31-ton hydraulic tipping trailer, which will I,one cif the exhibits of the Salop Traiger Co., Ltd., Shrewsbury (Stand H38), has industrial and civilengineering 'applications, in addition to

agricultural 1.1Se6. Other models shown will include a 4-ton four-wheeled lowloading model.

Barford (Agricultural), Ltd., is now known as Barfords of Belton, Ltd., Grantham. This concern will show a range of equipment extending from a ditch cleaner to a 3-ton hydraulic tipping trailer.

A readily adaptable 3-ton trailer, the Four Seasons, which can be modified to suit the farmer's needs throughout the year, is to be shown by Taskers of Andover (1932). Ltd„ Andover, on' Stand E32.

An A.E.C. oil engine powers the Tractoloader, manufactured by AllisChalmers (Great Britain), Ltd., Stamford, which will be found on Stand GI. This four-wheeled loading shovel has a torqueconverter transmission providing four speeds, forward or reverse.

It is envisaged that the Tractoloader could be used for loading root crops or for digging and muck-shifting on the farm. The unit can travel at up to 22.3 m.p.g. forward and 29.3 m.p.h. in reverse. Another Allis-Chalmers exhibit will be the HT-6 crawler tractor powered by a 66.5 b.h.p. oil. engine.

On Stand H34, Bristol Tractors, Ltd., Earby, via CoInc, are to show their latest crawler tractor, the Series D, which is an improved version of the 25. It has longer tracks than the previous model, and an extra track roller on each side.

The small tractor can exert a drawbar pull of 5,000 113; and is powered by a • Perkins P3/144 three-cylindered oil engine governed to 1,500 r.p.m. It has a maximum speed of 5 m.p.h.

The extensive ranges of matched equipment for use with basic tractors will be aspects of Stand E29, occupied by the Ford Motor Co.. Ltd., Dagenham, and of Stand E36, held by Massey-Ferguson (United Kingdom), Ltd., Coventry.

Introduced late last year, the 950 Imptematic Tractor with a full hydraulic 024 system will have pride of place on Stand F30. It is manufactured by David Brown Industries, Ltd., Huddersfield.

This model incorporates a hydraulic device, known as Traction Control, which enables weight from the implement attached to it to be transferred to the driving wheels for better traction. A differential lock is fitted.

The curious but effective Triple D tractor to be shown by Ernest Doe and Sons, Ltd., Maldon, Essex, on Stand D28 consists basically of two Fordson Power Major engine-transmission units coupled together.
