RAILWAYS TAKE BEET TRAFFIC A FTER a representative of British Railways said that the railways carried large quantities of sugar beet from the Bridgwater and Taunton areas, Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, ruled that beet should be carried by road from Avonmouth only for direct delivery to farms.

He was giving decision on an application to vary B-licence conditions, made by Miles and Alway, Ltd., Bridgwater, at Bristol, on Monday. The application sought conditions of "Livestock and agricultural produce andrequisites any distance, other goods 30 miles," for two vehicles.

Mr. Nelson granted the application but excluded sugar beet over any distance. The grant was qualified in respect of beet direct to farms, but this prevented delivery to factories.

GUY CHAIRMANSHIP CHANGES THE chairmanship of Guy Motors, Ltd., 1 Wolverhampton, was taken over by Mr. Arthur Chamberlain yesterday, Mr. Arthur L. Blower, who became chairman in 1957, is resigning from the board.

Mr. Chamberlain, who joined thc board early this year, is also a member of the western area board of the British Transport Commission and a director of J. Brock house arid Co., Ltd.

ROADS GROUP TOtR 'WENTY members of the All-Party Roads Study Group •leave • this country on Monday for a five-day tour of Sweden and West Germany. As guests of the Roads Campaign Council they will examine road-building projects, parking and traffic control methods.

CHRYSLER TO SELL PERKINS

AN agreement has been signed in America whereby the marketing and servicing of a comprehensive range of Perkins vehicle, agricultural and marine oil engines will be handled-in the U.S.A. and Canada by the marine and industrial division of the Chrysler Corporation. A subsidiary of F. Perkins. Ltd.—the Perkins Engine Co., Inc.—will be responsible for development in the U.S.
