Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN insulated air-conditioned vehicle to carry day-old chicks has been . supplied to Birds Eye Foods, Ltd. The body was built by Mann Egerton and Co., Ltd.., Norwich. upon an Austin 3-ton forward-control chassis.

A total of 12,600 chicks, packed in special boxes which are I placed in racks, can be accommodated in the body. The temperature is maintained at 70-75° F. at a humidity of no greater than 70 per cent.

The light-alloy body has 2-in-thick insulation of expanded polystyrene, and the double doors at the rear are sealed. The Kelvinator,.air-conditioning unit is transversely housed in a compartment across the front of the body. Trunking is provided down the centre of the vehicle to ensure a good circulation of air at correct temperature.

Chicks " Broadcast "

A loudspeaker is fitted in the cab to enable the driver to listen to the noise the chicks are making. This tells him whether they are comfortable or not. The vehicle is used to carry chicks from hatchery to thicken farm. It is important that the birds do not become chilled while travelling.

Birds Eye have also bought an Austin 30-cwt, egg-collection van inside which a temperature of not less than 60°F. can be maintained. .

About 19 extras have been fitted to a Morris FG 3-tonner with Bonallack body which has gone into service with Edme, Ltd; Mistley, maltsters. It was supplied by Scott Bros. (Colchester), Ltd., 42 Crouch Street, Colchester. The extras include automatic chassis lubrication, heater, radio, spring gaiters, sack-loader, windscreen washer, clock, coconut mats and three auxiliary lamps. The vehicle is finished, in blue with gold-leaf lettering.

A fleet of nine Thames 10-12-cwt. vans and a Thames Trader 4-tonner has been supplied to the Tulip Meat Co., London, E.C.1, by F. IL Peacock, Ltd., 215 Balham High Road, London, S.W.17. Paintwork was done by Coachcraft, Ltd., Mitcham.

Two Thames Trader 5-tonners with 4D engines have been sold by Adlards Motors, Ltd., 43 Acre Lane, Liindon, S.W.2, to Samuel Taylor and Sons, Ltd., Grange Road, London, S.E.1. The vehicles are for use by the Salvation Army on the collection of waste paper, and were painted and lettered by I. Rawson and Sons, Ltd., Tunbridge Wells.

J. H. Jennings and Son (Sandbach), Ltd., Sandbach, have constructed a mobile showroom for the demonstration of gas appliances. It has been supplied to the Port Talbot undertaking of the Wales Gas Board. A body of composite construction is mounted on a Commer 11ton chassis, and appliances are displayed on the.off side on a raised platform. Gas cylinders are housed under the platform, and access to them is provided by a lid.

Capable of carrying 2,000 books, a Guy mobile library built for Shropshire County Library by Carmichael and Sons (Worcester), Ltd., The Butts, Worcester, has a body with an aluminium frame and plastics panelling, the roof being translucent. Shelving is also in plastics. The body is 20 ft. long, 7 ft. 5 in. wide and 10 ft. 2 in. high. Electric heating and lighting are installed.

Three Austin ambulances obtained by Plymouth Corporation from A. • C. Turner, Ltd., Plymouth, have bodies with steel framing and plastics panelling built by Longwell Green Coachworks, Ltd., Bristol. The windscreen comprises two wrap-round sections. Front doors are Of the hinged •type.

An order has been placed by the• Co-operative Wholesale Society, Ltd., through Rootes, Ltd., Manchester, for 40 Kaffier Bantam 8-ft. 2-in.-wheelbase chassis-cabs. Thirty-eight of the models are to be powered by diesel engines and the remaining two by petrol.

A vehicle more than 24 ft. long but which weighs only 4 tons unladen has been purchased by Hunts Removals, Ltd., Crewe, from Donald Taylor, Ltd., Crewe, Dennis distributors. It is a Pax 17-ft. 7-in.-wheelbase chassis with 1,675-cu.-ft. pantechnicon bodywork by C. E. Jones and Co., Crewe. • The body is built, of timber and light alloy, whilst plastics panels are incorporated in the roof. The front corners of the roof are of moulded rubber.
