MESSRS. J. JANES, C. E. JORDAN, C. SMITH and G. W. ORR Were elected vice-chairmen for the ensuing year at the recent annual meeting of the Traders' Road Transport Association. MR. H. C. CRANE was also re-elected honorary treasurer.

MR, F. A. BiNGnam, assktant manager of the Birmingham depot of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., since the war, has been appointed representative of the company's transport group in Warwickshire and Oxfordshire. MR. L. BLAKE, after many years at Fort Dunlop, has taken up a similar position in respect of the counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire and part of Worcestershire.

MR. D. WALLACE has been appointed manager of the tyre sales production co-ordination department of the North British Rubber Co., LtcL, in succession to MR. C. SURSHAM, now in charge of sales production co-ordination of the mechanical division of the company. Mr. Wallace's previous position as tyre sales representative for the Edinburgh area has been filled by MR. A. C. BALDIE.

MR. G. A. H. CARDWELL, A.M.I.M.E., A.M.Inst.T., becomes deputy chief engineer at the headquarters of the Road Haulage Executive on July 18. He was previously assistant general manager of the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd. MR. L. E. BRIGGS, M.IIISI-T., former area manager for South Wales of the Carter Paterson and Pickfords joint parcels services, becomes district manager for the Gloucester District of the Western Division (Freight) of the R.H.E. as from to-day. Another Executive appointment is that of MR. J. P. YOUNG, who becomes district manager for the Glasgow District of the Scottish Division (Freight). His previous position was manager in charge of vehicles and traffic for Young's Express Deliveries, Ltd. MR. R. Grams and MR. J. H. LORD, directors of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., recently flew to Hainan to attend a meeting of the German company, of which they are also directors, and to confer with the local management.

_MR. C. G. BROOK and MR. S. W. DICK have been appointed joint assistant 'general managers of 'the "National Benzoic Co., Ltd. MR. L. HALSEY, formerly group sales manager, succeeds Mr. Brook as sales manager.

MR. HENRY PYE was honoured at a luncheon held on June 16 to celebrate the 30th anntversary of the founding of H. Pye and Son, Ltd. From his co-directors and the company Mr. Pye received a presentation of a television console.

MR, R. A. CARDER, recently elected chairman of the Anglo-American Oil Co., Ltd., is continuing as managing director, which position he has held since 1939. MR. DAVID A. SHEPARD, chairman since 1945, has resigned to take up a position in New York as executive assistant to the president of Standard Oil Co. (New Jersey), and MR. L. SINCLAIR, director of the AngloAmerican Oil Co., Ltd., has been appointed an additional managing director with Mr. Carder. MR. H. W. PAGE, executive assistant to the president of the Standard Oil Co. (New Jersey), is now a director of AngloAmerican Oil Co., Ltd. MR. J. V. PasHop, a technical sales manager of Jenolite, Ltd., is 'flying by B.O.A.C. to Australia, via America and the Pacific, to demonstrate a new method of rustproofing which has recently been teSted by the Austin Motor Co., Ltd.__ MR. A. T. FIDLER, assistant secretary of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., retired yesterday after 36 years' service. Since his appointment in 1917, he believes that he has signed more than a million cheques, share certificates, dividend warrants and other documents.

.MR. C. OWEN SILVERS, general manager of Wolverhampton Transport Department, will retire next October, after 34 years with the undertaking. He was president of the Municipal Passenger Transport Association in 1936-37, and was a foundation member of the Institute of Transport.

MR. R. CROPPER, B.A., A.M.Inst.T., has left the National Road Transport Federation and the Road Haulage Association, and has set up as a transport consultant. He is now undertaking work in connection with licensing, original permits, operating centres, rates and costs, and any problem relating -to the general organization of trans

port businsses.

MR. R. HOGGARD, general manager of Chesterfield Transport Department, has accepted a post with the nationalized transport service. He will leave Chesterfield at the end of August. Mr. Hoggard, who is 63 years of age, started his transport career at Sheffield, and in 1920 went to Wigan as superintendent. A year later he became general manager at Lincoln, and next moved to Chesterfield, where he has remained since 1928.
