Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Following the news Last week that Daf is to offer satellite communications equipment, a German company is teaming up with US firm Qualcomm to offer a similar system throughout Europe.

Alcatel-SEL has begun demonstrations in Stuttgart for major European hauliers, including Frans Maas, Nedlloyd Road Cargo, Koning en Hartman, Van Amerongen, Rotterdam Tank-Transport (KIT), as well as the Royal Netherlands Association of Transport Enterprises.

A trial batch of 40 trucks will be fitted with the satellite equipment, and Qualcomm plans to include British hauliers in the scheme within the next two months.

The Qualcomm/Alcatel-SEL system uses the Eutelsat satellite linked to a EutelTRACS network management system to tell operators where their trucks are, and to enable operators and their drivers to communicate throughout Europe, parts of North Africa and the Middle East.
