Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• MAN is recalling approximately 800 of its G90 8.150, 8.100 and 10.150 middleweight trucks for a safety check on their brakes, namely loose bolts securing the brake shoe back plates on both axles. This is not a design fault, says MAN: "It's only a matter of tightening up a few bolts."

MAN conducted tests on 10 vehicles as long ago as July — and found that on only one of them were all the brake bolts correctly tightened. The vehicles concerned were built at Salzgitter, West Germany.

Only G90 models delivered to the UK before August are being recalled; owners will be notified this week to take their vehicles in to local dealers.

During the recall checks a larger heat shield will also be fitted to exhaust downpipes to protect the plastic brake pipes, and some models will get a modified tail pipe.

MAN says the work will take one day at the outside. Concerned owners should ring (0793) 488106/7/8.
