Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SCOTTISH lorry drivers have turned down another five per cent wage offer from the Road Haulage Association, and union pressure for a 20 to 30 per cent increase is continuing.

Scottish RHA members had also offered the men a compensatory £56 payment in return for a change of wage settlement date from November to January, and sought to pay an increased subsistence allowance and an extra week's holiday.

Transport and General Workers Union leaders are still pressing for the basic £53 wage for a 40-hour week to be raised to £65 for a 35-hour week, although it is understood that they are prepared to continue working a 40-hour week if other conditions are met.

RHA is under Government pressure not to break the five per cent guidelines, especially in view of the recent release of the Price Commission report on the efficiency of the road haulage industry.
