Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Britain's biggest pipe load

ONE hundred and thirty feet of unbendable pipeline were one of the longest loads ever to be transported by road in Britain and had to be driven along a tortuous 13-mile route by Kaye, Goodfellow and Co, Manchester.

The pipeline — a stripping tower which will be erected as part of a chemical plant in Yugoslavia — weighed 55 tons and was 13 feet in diameter. It was driven from a factory in Audenshaw to Trafford Park, Manchester. Kaye, Goodfellow will transport the tower to Salford Docks next month.

Kaye, Goodfellow runs a fleet of 25 vehicles, ranging in size from six tons to 110 tons.

"Thanks to careful planning beforehand, an experienced crew and close co-operation, with the police and Department of the Environment it proved a smooth job without mishap," said transport manager Edward Lavelle. "The journey took 21/2 hours — about the time we expected.

"We do a couple of dozen of these kinds of jobs a year and it is not unusual for us to transport an abnormal load from Dundee to Tilbury."
