lE WINDSOR cordon would cost hauliers a total of around 110,000 a year, according to TRRL's report on the Berkshire county Council's experiment.
The average distance, time and cost penalties, according to ie report, worked out at 3% miles, 51/2 minutes and £1 respecvely. The Cordon prohibits access to Windsor from the East, outh and West, and was observed by 77 per cent of hgv.
In practical terms this means that there is a reduction of about ,500 hgv crossing the lines of the Cordon every day. But while ,400 homes had an average reduction of 410 passing lorries, nother 1,200 had 360 more past their doors.
