Everyone recognised that there was an argument for byassing Okchampton, which was being driven to death by affic, but the only argument for putting it through the National ark was one of "overwhelming national necessity", said Lord oot. He suggested that the northerly route, which passed hrough farmland, should be adopted.

Lady Stedman, for the Government, promised to rng his iews to the attention of the Transport Secretary.
