THE Road Haulage Executive is putting up for auction another 130 lorries recently acquired. Surplus vehicles go under the hammer at Duntocher, Dumbartonshire, on December 5. This will make a total of more than 400 lorries auctioned by the R.H.E. in Scotland. "

Mr. Alex. Beith, a Glasgow auctioneer, says that the reason for the repeated sales is that most nationalized concerns had a few aged lorries, as well as some vehicles which do not fit into the standardized repair and maintenance picture of the Executive. He predicts that the sales will continue at intervals for another year and then become annual events.

T.R.T.A. DRIVE IN SOUTH

THE membership recruiting campaign of the London and Home Counties area of the Traders' Road Transport

Association continues. Bournemouth, which a year ago had a poor membership record, has progressed to a point where it has been possible to form a • T.R.T.A. section for Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding district. Mr. R. E. G. Brown, area secretary, is hoping that it will be possible to link up the South Coast membership under a sub-area organization.

SUPPRESSION CATCHES ON

VARIOUS undertakings are Complying with the Postmaster-General's request for the universal adoption of television suppressors. The Road Haulage Executive and the Tilling group are to fit them on 16,000 of their vehicles in the television reception areas, whilst the City Motor Co. (Oxford), Ltd., Gloucester Street, Oxford, is to instal suppressors free of charge on all vehicles, used and new, which it supplies.

The need for this equipment has also been stressed recently by the Royal Automobile Club, the Automobile Association and the Royal Scottish Automobile Club.

REGISTRATIONS FOR AUGUST

THE total of new registrations for August was 11,192, which brought the total for the first eight months of the sear to 110,208. Details are given in the table below.
